She has 6 years experience as a teen challenge counselor; 10 years as a director of New Life for Girls, (a residential drug treatment center for girls); 11 years as a counselor/speaker for International Prison ministry; 10 years as a volunteer for Texas Youth Commission; 17 years as founder/director of Street Church Academy of Dallas; And developed multiple phased after-school programs.
RECENTLY COOKIE OPENED THE NU LIFE D-BOY OUTREACH CENTER IN GARLAND. This center seeks to change the quality of life for young people and their families by developing spiritual, social, cultural, educational and economic opportunities on their behalf. The objective is to improve academic skill level, enhance decision making abilities, lower school drop out rate, reduce teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, decrease gang and delinquent behavior of "at-risk" youth.
In 1990, Cookie's son Danny "D-Boy" Rodriguez was shot at the age of 22. "D-Boy", like his mother, dedicated his life to the streets and was a leader and mentor to the streets. This is where the vision and passion for street church began. D-Boy was also a pioneer of christian rap music. Today national recording rap artists such as Lingo, Heata, Fred Lynch and many more, teamed up, to pay tribute to D-Boy, in a compilation they titled, "The Fallen Soldier Compilation, a Tribute to Danny "D-Boy" Rodriguez.
